EMPTY WEIGHT
In the middle of an empty gallery of 27 hundred square feet I erected an object: a mountain. Constructed from wood and with diaphanous material used for its surface—Lycra, that is—the mountain became an obstacle making it impossible to explore the space freely. The only way to reach the other side of the room was to enter the object. Inside, pine bark exuded the smell of the forest. The only source of light in the gallery was a window located in the mountain’s interior. The effect was that intensity of light inside the object reflected the weather outside as well as the time of day.
