RETURN FROM THE STARS
Return from the stars is an abstract object erected on the river Pegnitz in the centre of Nuremberg. Shaped like an iceberg, it is reflected on the surface of the water. The work refers to the tradition of Romantic landscape painting, with its mysteriousness, solemnity, and nostalgia.
Return from the stars is a work about tourists, travellers, and wanderers—about people who, roaming the planet, often find themselves in unfamiliar places, taken out of their natural contexts of culture, politics, or geography.
Crucial for the visual impact of the work was the use of the surrounding landscape’s features: the installation was located on a gentle curve of the river, in a place delimited by bridges and a wall a dozen feet high, as if framed (like a painting) and, as such, definite in compositional terms.
